What is LiCAP?

Liver Specialist Designed.
Patient Centred.

South Asian Liver Institute's Liver Care Programme (LiCAP) is liver specialist designed, patient centred optimisation of the medical care of the liver — with early careful tests, individualised treatment and regular follow-up to monitor the liver's health over a long period of time. It even aims to reverse many chronic diseases and prevent the need for a transplant in the best case scenario, and at least slow down deterioration in advanced cases.

Despite the simplicity of its name, it holds promise for the 250 million odd people in India with some form of liver disease.

Who Is It For?

LiCAP Is Many Programmes in One

01
For Early Liver Disease
e.g. Grade 1 Fatty Liver Disease
A programme that reviews the health of the patient's liver with a few basic and simple tests — even before the onset of symptoms. It investigates other factors such as potential genetic influence, then starts measures to limit and later reverse the damage.
02
For Serious Liver Disease
e.g. Liver Cancer
A programme that aims to reach diagnosis quickly, perform the right surgery, and put the patient on an intensive follow-up regimen that aims to detect any potential recurrences at the earliest.
03
Post Liver Transplant
Life after transplantation
A programme that sees transplant patients regularly, examines them, optimises their medications — especially immunosuppression drugs — so that they get the full benefit of a long post-transplant life.
Three Crucial Concepts

LiCAP Introduces 3 Crucial
Concepts to Indian Healthcare

01
Healthcare Centric
LiCAP is not sickcare. Most healthcare projects in India are designed to look after patients with disease. LiCAP actively seeks to find early evidence of liver disease, then mitigates its damage and returns the organ to good health — before disease becomes serious.
02
Harness Regeneration Capacity
The liver has a remarkable capacity to regenerate. LiCAP wishes to harness this huge regeneration capacity — turning patients into healthy people again by reversing damage that was once thought permanent.
03
Slow Long Term Disease
Liver disease is almost always chronic — a slow, long-term disease that progresses over time and gives multiple warnings if you know how to look for them. LiCAP detects and corrects deteriorating factors before permanent damage (cirrhosis) occurs.
Our Ambition

Our Aim

South Asian Liver Institute hopes to recruit all 250 million people with liver disease in India into LiCAP — although this will remain a dream until awareness of the nature of liver disease becomes more widespread.

Even if people are not able to come to us in person, we hope to run LiCAP as an online service for those far from us. South Asian Liver Institute already has a physical presence in multiple cities across India — and is growing.
