Dr. Tom Cherian is a Liver Specialist with expertise in complex liver transplants — including Split, Domino, and Auxiliary transplants — and has even innovated paediatric transplant techniques. His 17-year career in the UK included training at Birmingham Transplant Unit (then the second largest liver transplant unit in Europe) and 5 years as a Senior Surgeon at King's College Hospital, London — the world's top liver institute.

Basic Surgical Training — FRCS3 years of foundational surgical training in the UK, earning his FRCS (MS Equivalent).

2000s

Higher Specialist Training — Birmingham Transplant UnitSelected for HPB and transplant surgery training at Birmingham — then Europe's 2nd largest liver transplant unit. Awarded sub-specialty FRCS (MCh Equivalent).

Returns to India — Founds South Asian Liver InstituteAfter 17 years in the UK, returns to India to establish the country's only private dedicated liver institute, bringing international standards of care to Indian patients.

Senior Advisor, Liver Transplantation — Telangana StateAppointed by the Telangana State Government as Senior Advisor for Liver Transplantation. Performed the first successful liver transplant at GB Pant Hospital (New Delhi), Osmania Hospital, and NIMS (Hyderabad).

2015

1st Split Liver Transplant in Combined Andhra StatesPerformed the first successful split liver transplant in combined Andhra States in Hyderabad — a pioneering technique that allows one liver to save two lives.
